The guzheng body is long and the soundboard thin. The main risks when moving it are crushing and impact, followed by uneven loading that can distort the body.
For short moves, support the body at both ends or use a dedicated gig bag, keeping the soundboard facing up. Never carry it by the string side with one hand, and do not leave it leaning against a wall for long periods.
Before a long journey, slacken the strings to reduce overall tension, then pack the instrument in a hard case and fill the gaps with soft material so it cannot shift in transit.
Bridges can be removed and packed separately, or padded securely with soft cloth. A soundboard under direct load dents easily, and such dents are often impossible to erase completely from the tone.
Do not play immediately on arrival. Let the instrument sit at room temperature for a while to acclimatise, then bring the strings up gradually and retune.
