The Zhonghong research team brings together industrial designers, mechanical engineers and musicians. Design work is carried out in CAD, laboratory equipment underpins the scientific rigour of that design, and partnerships with a number of Chinese music research bodies give us a service network, an ear to what is happening in the industry, and the theoretical grounding behind each design.
Industrial Design: our industrial design department is staffed by experienced industrial designers and mechanical engineers. Working in advanced CAD software, they produce fully computer-drawn engineering drawings for components and assemblies, and use 3D exploded views to analyse fit during trial assembly. This lets us develop new instruments, and meet specific customer requirements, quickly and to a satisfactory standard. The results are distinctive in appearance, sound in structure and strong on original ideas.
Chinese Instrument Engineering: our engineering department retains specialists in Chinese traditional instruments and maintains technical support arrangements with research institutions at home and abroad. It studies how instrument technology is applied, tracks new developments, and maintains a technical information base that feeds back into Zhonghong products.
Zhonghong designs around a simple set of ideas: people first, meeting customer needs as the purpose, and producing instruments with genuine competitive strength as the goal. All our resources go into designing products for Chinese traditional music that are both original and worthwhile.
